“The unique feature of the training courses in my opinion is that the trainers are people who have a huge amount of experience in the Oil and Gas industry and are more than willing to pass on their knowledge. The trainers are open to any questions on the industry and more than happy to answer them by being accessible and open during the courses.”
Charlie works for ENGIE E&P UK Limited, an affiliate of the world’s largest utilities company and rapidly becoming one of the UK’s leading operators. Before joining ENGIE, Charlie worked for BG Group, having initially worked in BG’s corporate headquarters before joining its North Sea (UK) operating business. Charlie has participated in four of MDT International’s open courses and feels very strongly about his career progression as a consequence. Here is what Charlie had to say:
“I had attended several MDT courses whilst working for my previous employer (BG Group). I have always found the courses interesting and the information learned on those courses value-adding. When working for an operator, the courses give you a clear overview of the overall structure of an oil and gas company which sometimes you naturally do not have in your day to day job - these courses have certainly increased my knowledge in some areas and helped consolidate the knowledge I already have in others areas, all of which has helped me progress in my career to the current Development & Operations Accountant role that I hold. The financial impact from the initial seismic being studied - to drilling the wells -main development - to producing gas/oil to then decommissioning is something that has been studied in the various MDT Courses I have taken (and the appropriate Accounting treatment for these expenditures) . The above learnings have helped me greatly in my current role where we are building a new offshore platform. Areas covered in the courses such as the impact of supply chain contracts, importance of cost control, robust economic data and workings & risks to the project area all part of my day to day job now. The courses also provide very good manuals and workings which can be referred back to if needed.”
Charlie is planning to take further training with MDT later this year and linking this in with his personal objectives at work.
