What was your motivation for moving into training?
Having spent 30 happy and rewarding years working in the upstream industry, I wanted to pass on some of the knowledge that I had gained in my career. Also to share my enthusiasm for the upstream industry with people whose careers in the industry are still developing - the objective being to make a difference to my participants' careers and, hopefully, their lives.
How would you describe your personal training style?
Open and friendly, where people can feel free to ask questions and maximise their learning in an atmosphere that is lively, engaging, enjoyable and inspiring.
What are the main benefits delegates get from training with MDT International?
Delegates gain knowledge, understanding and enhanced skills that can be readily applied to their work environment, thereby improving their career prospects. They also get the opportunity to discuss issues covered in the courses with an industry expert who has hands-on personal experience of the issue and who can provide practical insights that bring the subject alive. And on our open courses, the opportunity for participants to make new friends from other companies and other countries.
How do you meet some of the challenges raised in training?
With an open and positive attitude that looks to handle all challenges encountered in an honest and constructive manner.
Any notable personal achievements?
Although not a sailor, I participated in the Dubai to Muscat yacht race - through the Straits of Hormuz in very stormy conditions! An experience not to be forgotten - and not to be repeated.
Outside work, what are your main interests?
Watching sport, the occasional round of golf and spending time with my family. And undertaking DIY projects on our home when my wife insists!
What's your favourite place and why?
I have been lucky enough to visit many great places whilst working for MDT and I have many favourites. Among these is Kuala Lumpur, where I have spent so much time that it feels like a second home. It is a lively and fascinating city and the staff at the Crowne Plaza hotel where we stay and deliver our courses all greet me by name!
I also enjoy visiting Dubai as I used to live there, and it is always interesting to see the changes that have taken place since my last visit six months previously. And Perth, Australia where I have made some good friends at our client Woodside.
Sum up MDT training in a couple of words!
Interesting, relevant, enjoyable and inspiring!
“Very well structured and presented course.”
“One of the best courses I have attended, very informative.”
